Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA) is donating65,000 tree seedlings to all the 18 counties within its jurisdiction with more emphasis on fruit trees to be planted on Monday as part of President William Ruto’s 15 billion trees by 2032.

The Authority Managing Director Wycliffe Ochiaga said the counties fall within Nyanza region and parts of Western and Rift Valley regions.

Ochiaga said in Kisumu County, they are giving out 15,000 seedlings for plantation as they also take part in the national initiative on Monday.

“In all the 18 counties we are working with several agencies and stakeholders to ensure more trees are planted and helped to grow,” he said.

He noted that LBDA will join Kisumu County for the occasion on Monday where Cabinet Secretary for Public Service Moses Kuria is expected to lead the exercise at Kodiaga Maximum Prison.

The MD said more focus is on fruit seedlings since apart from conserving the environment, they also come in handy for its value addition in terms of fruits.

“The fruit tree will give out people something to pluck and sell in the market and in return make money,” he said.

He noted that Kodiaga and other institutions were picked due to the quick labour needed and care through watering to make the seedlings grow.

Kisumu County Commissioner Alasan Hussein announced that plans are complete to ensure trees are planted across the County.
